Canadian Applicants | Print |

Because of our eligibility to enroll foreign students and our close proximity to Canada, Birthwise Midwifery School has enrolled many Canadian students in our program.

If you are Canadian and wish to enroll in our program, we encourage you to visit the Canadian Midwives Association website for detailed information on the legal and political status of direct-entry midwifery in your Province.

Midwifery is a rapidly growing profession in Canada. Legislation and models of midwifery care are diverse across the country. The status of midwifery in many province and territories is dynamic and the process of legislating midwifery is moving quickly across Canada. Some provinces or territories have midwifery legislation, some do not as of yet but are quickly developing and passing legislation. Some provinces have a publicly funded model of midwifery care, some provinces have privately funded models of care. Now is a time of excitement and rapid change in Canada for the midwifery profession.

Although registered midwives in Ontario must attend one of the university-based educational programs in Canada, there is a mechanism for foreign trained midwives to become registered in Ontario. This involves an additional 9 months of training which is offered at Ryerson University. For more information on this program, click here search International Midwifery Pre-registration Program.

Birthwise graduates are currently practicing in Ontario and Manitoba.
