Founded in 1768 and with a population of 4,883, Bridgton is located in the scenic Lakes Region of southwestern Maine. It?s a 4-season tourist destination with plenty of recreational opportunities within minutes, whatever the season. Other popular destinations, the large towns of Portland and Conway (NH), are about 30-60 minutes away.
The town's summer population swells, providing many residents with jobs. The major employers are the schools, hospital, restaurants and shops, the Shawnee Peak ski resort, and a few manufacturing operations in town. In the past, Birthwise students have found jobs in and around Bridgton from landscaping, office, and restaurant work to housecleaning.
Although it is a small town, Bridgton has many amenities including a movie theater, a beach on Highland Lake, a weekly newspaper, a health food store, a good bookstore, a hospital, a library, and some good eating spots - all within walking distance of Birthwise.
